By .. LA JARA — N. Kelland Jackson, 84, of La
Jara, died Jan. 15, 2004, at Presbyterian St. Luke’s Hospital in Denver.
He was born June 16, 1919 in Manassa to Lafayette
and Jane Schofield Jackson. His father died of cancer Feb. 6, 1920 in the
LDS Hospital at Salt Lake City, and he was raised by his mother, along
with three sisters, Isabelle, Rita and Inez, and one brother, Lafe, who
all preceded him in death.
He graduated from Manassa High School in 1937
and bought a farm north of Manassa at age 19, supporting his mother with
all the luxuries he could afford. He filled a mission for the Church of
Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints in the Central States Mission - Illinois
and Missouri, for two years and married Wilma Christensen on Oct. 1, 1952,
in the Manti, Utah, Temple. His mother died 10 days later, on Oct. 10.
Kelland moved to Idaho and attended Idaho State
University, graduating in June, 1969, then returning to Colorado, where
he taught math at Antonito Elementary School and one year at La Jara Elementary.
He ran a route for bank records to Santa Fe, N.M. and, later, Colorado
Springs, and was very active as a member in positions in the LDS Church.
He always had a good sense of humor through good
times and bad and never complained about pain or inconvenience. He was
always concerned about the needs of others, first.
Kelland enjoyed reading books, genealogy, joking
and spending time with his grandkids. He was a loving and devoted father,
grandfather, husband and neighbor, who will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma, of La Jara;
his children, Bryant (Shuko) Jackson and their three children of Rancho
Santa Margarita, Calif,; Emmalee (Steven) Sorenson and their 11 children
of Manassa; Lou Jane (Chester) Rodgers and their two children of Bountiful,
Utah; David (Glenda) Jacksonand their two children of Manassa; William
(Renee) Jackson and their two children of Antonito; Lannette (Wayne) Nielsen
and their six children of Manti, Utah; and Gayle (Jeanne) Jackson and their
seven children of Chrisman, Ill.
In addition to his parents and all his brothers
and sisters, he was preceded in death by a son, Edward Jackson, who was
killed in an automobile accident on Oct. 11, 1972.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Sunday, Jan.
18, at Rogers Family Mortuary in Manassa and from 10 a.m. until service
time Monday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in La Jara.
Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan.
19, at the same church, with burial following in the Manassa Cemetery.
